Whenever someone compliments my skin I give thanks that DHC sent me some skin care samples along with a catalog about 20 years ago. One of those samples was a packet of their Deep Cleansing Oil. I was initially skeptical that oil could be used to clean oil, dirt, and makeup off my skin but after just one use I was hooked.

It quickly became the one skin care/beauty product I never let myself run out of. Washing my face with regular soap and water is simply not the same. In fact, it's a really unpleasant experience because my face just doesn't feel clean without it.

DHC makes their entire product line in Japan, and their Deep Cleansing Oil is one of their best selling items. Remarkably, the price has remained pretty steady all these years as well as the formula. Read on to learn why I love this product so much! (Disclaimer: this is not a paid promotion and no one has asked or paid me to write about this product.)

What is DHC Deep Cleansing Oil Made From?

The main ingredient in DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil is 100% organic olive oil. Olive oil has been used as a skin care product for years thanks to it moisturizing and anti-oxidant properties that can help combat the signs of aging.

However, this is not the same olive oil that you eat or cook with. DHC formulates it so it's water soluble—that's right, in this case oil and water do mix. Otherwise, it would be near impossible to remove it from your skin. It also won't clog your pores so you don't have to worry about developing acne while using this product.

DHC adds rosemary leaf oil to this product which gives it a pleasant, invigorating natural scent. (It does not contain any artificial fragrance, which I love because I'm not a fan of artificial perfumes and sickly sweet fragrances added to skin care products.) Its sunny golden hue comes directly from the olives—no color added.

How to Use DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil works a little differently from other skin cleansers. You want to apply it to dry skin. That's right—do not wet your face or hands with water before using this product, or it won't work because water will dissolve it. Dispense a few pumps into your palm and then smooth it over your face in circular or stroking motions.

The oil immediately dissolves makeup, and loosens dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. You can also use it to remove eye makeup including waterproof mascara (but be careful not to let it get in your eyes—it stings like crazy!)

You can then rinse it off with warm water and a facecloth if you like. Next, follow up with a sudsy skin cleanser of your choice. This is known as double cleansing in Japan—a centuries old ritual, in fact—and it helps ensure that your face is completely clean. Rinse, gently pat dry, and apply your favorite facial moisturizer.

I use it twice a day, and am always amazed at how soft and clean it leaves my skin but yet doesn't clog pores and cause blemishes.

Other Uses for DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

Makeup Tool Cleaner: As if this stuff couldn't be any more awesome in my eyes, it turns out you can use it to clean other things besides your skin. It makes a fantastic makeup tool cleaner—especially if you use a brush or sponge to apply foundation. This will totally dissolve makeup from your tools to help prevent bacteria build-up.

Scalp and Hair Moisturizer: I also love to massage a bit into my scalp before washing my hair to help moisturize it and loosen any dead skin cells. When I wet my hair, it rinses out and shampoo tends to lather up a bit better.

Gua Sha Stone Oil: The oil is also great if you use a gua sha stone to massage your face. This type of facial treatment works best if you use an oil to help the stone glide over your jawline and face, and DHC Deep Cleansing Oil does double duty by removing impurities from your skin at the same time.

How Much Does DHC Deep Cleansing Oil Cost?

At $31.50 for a 6.7 fl.oz. bottle, DHC Deep Cleansing Oil may be a bit more than what you're accustomed to paying for a skin cleanser. However, a little goes a long way so a bottle will last you a really long time.

DHC also has a reward system that is free to join and will award you points with every order that you can use at any time for money off a purchase. New customers can also sign up for the newsletter to receive 15% off your first purchase. The company regularly has sales and specials so you can stock up on the oil and other products for some serious savings several times a year. Orders totaling $75 or more ship for free.

You can select up to four free samples of their products with each order. Speaking of which, you can request free samples of the oil and other products to try before you buy, even if you're not a customer.

This is one of DHC's top selling products worldwide and it's easy to see why. No matter your age, you'll definitely want to add this one to your arsenal of skin care products!
