About Me

   A Gen-Xer Grows Up. Finally.

Hi there, my fantastic, flashy friend!

I'm Pam, and welcome to The Flashy Woman! If you've been searching for a blog for women 50 and older, you've come to the right place. Here I like to write about how to deal with menopause, staying healthy, home cleaning and organizing tips, the 1980s, meal ideas, and well...anything else I darn well feel like!

My story is a little different than most women my age. While many of my peers got married in their 20s and 30s and had families, I lived at home with my mother until I was in my late 40s.

My mother passed away and after years of taking care of her and managing her medical appointments, I had to get a job again after being away from the working world for several years. Then I had to find a new place to live, and moved into my first apartment. I've since found a new (and better) job and while life has turned out differently than how I expected it, it really isn't all that bad.

In many ways I feel like I'm in my 20s navigating independence for the first time. Except I'm dealing with hot flashes!

It's Only Menopause. We've Got This!

That means I've done a lot of learning the past few years from managing a budget to planning healthy meals for the week and balancing work and socializing time—all while trying to get enough sleep and exercise, and age gracefully.

This website will be part personal diary, part practical information for women in their 50s and beyond (and younger women as well) that are navigating changes in their life. That includes dealing with menopause—OK, probably a LOT of posts are going to be about my quest for menopause remedies.

Many of you from my age range are dealing with the same. But we got this - Generation X were the kids that came home from school and had to make do until their parents left work!

I've also long been inspired by women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond that always seem to be ageless and have energy and sexuality. That to me is what it means to be a flashy woman—we are flashy in many ways that have nothing to do with hot flashes.

I look forward to having you join me as I learn on this journey. Let's be flashy together!
